About the event

Inspired by one of the world’s great communal dining traditions: a shared table, a potluck spread, and good company at sunset. Every year, during Ramadan (a month held sacred by Muslims around the world) millions of people fast from dawn until sunset, and gather together the moment the sun goes down to break their fast. There is something almost universally irresistible about it: long tables, abundant food, and the particular joy of sharing a meal with family, friends, and the wider community.

For those celebrating Ramadan far from home, the iftar table can feel quieter than usual. With this evening, we would like to recreate that warm feeling of sharing one big table, just like back home.

It’s one of the most communal traditions in the world, and everyone's invited. For those curious to experience it for the first time, this is a wonderful place to start.

What to expect 🌙

Doors open at 18:00. At 18:15, we kick off with a short introduction to Ramadan and its traditions from around the world. At 18:44, the official sunset time in Tilburg that evening, we break the fast together.

This is a potluck, which means the table is built by all of us. Bring a dish from your own culture, a recipe you love, or something you picked up on the way. The spread will be diverse, colorful, and delicious (well, we’re counting on you for that last part.)

You don’t need any connection to Ramadan to join. You don’t need to have been fasting. You don’t need to be of any particular faith. This evening is for anyone who is curious, hungry, and up for good company around a shared table.

What to bring 🍽️

One dish to share: savory, sweet, or both! Fill in the RSVP form to let us know what you’re planning to bring so we end up with a good mix. Labelling allergens or dietary info is always a kind touch!

So what are Ramadan and iftar?

Ramadan is the ninth month of the Islamic lunar calendar, which shifts about 10 days earlier every year, traveling through all seasons over time. In 2026, it falls between late February and late March.

Fasting during this month is a way of practicing gratitude, self-discipline, and empathy: a reminder of what it means to go without, and to be generous toward those who do. Beyond the fast itself, it’s a time for slowing down, togetherness, and hospitality. Charity and shared meals are at the heart of it.

Iftar literally means breaking the fast in Arabic, the evening meal that ends the day. Traditionally, it begins with something small (often a date and a glass of water) before moving into the full meal. Every culture brings its own flavors: soups, pastries, dishes, sweets, spreads that seem to have no end.

The table is big, the food is plentiful, and the door is always open.

House rules 🌿

In our venue, people from all over the world meet and connect. To provide a fair and open space to everyone, we have rules in place. Be kind, welcoming, accepting, and loving. Stick to instructions made by staff at all times. Don't move furniture without consent of our team and keep drinks inside. It goes without saying, but discrimination, racism, and sexist behavior is a no-go. We're looking forward to meeting you!
